In this very first edition of the Fabrique 1840 award, hundreds of artisans from all over Canada competed creatively to earn themselves a spot among the 30 finalists as well as the opportunity to present to you, the public, their interpretation of the established theme: revival.
This theme reflects multidisciplinary artist Anna Jane McIntyre's African-American identity and her evolution. Through her art, she explores the various facets of her origins through an aesthetic she calls "afropresence." Her roots' elements and patterns are superimposed on this visual piece, recounting Black history and pointing to a bright and inclusive future for all minorities. The original piece-Game Face (Now You Know)-was featured in various exhibitions on the persecution and heritage of the Black community, including The Visual Life of Social Affliction and the Americas 2021 virtual art exhibition at the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA), in Washington.
